Meet Claire Ghabrial, former Australian & Oceania boxing champion, boxing specialist & mindset coach
Where did it all began?
I started karate at 12, changed to Kickboxing at 18, then Boxing at 20. I had 51 boxing fights, 41 wins won 7 state titles, 5 Australian titles, 3 Oceania titles, 2 international Gold medals and as the first Australian female boxer to ever receive a scholarship with Boxing Australia and live at the A.I.S in Canberra
Was there a significant achievement or milestone in your fitness journey?
One of my biggest achievements that I hold close to my heart, was a international tournament in Turkey where I raised money and went alone without a coach. I was a complete underdog. I had nothing to lose and nothing to prove as I had only had 24 fights at this stage, I just knew I needed to gain international experience if I wanted to be good. I had 3 fights and 3 wins to make the final against the one and only World Champion, Katie Taylor where she pulled out with an injury. As gutted as I was to miss out on fighting her, I was proud of my achievement to even make the final and claim my first international medal.
What is a saying that motivates you?
My brand Glove Up has a tag line of “Punch Your Fears Away” which to me means to “Get out of your own way” and go after what you want. Life is way too short to just sit and wonder.
Favourite piece of equipment
Oh, this is a hard one as I am a total cardio/HIIT queen. The rower is probably my favourite cardio piece but I love the plyo box and dead balls too
